Chiptunes are music generated by audio chips in old computers and video games. These audio chips are limited to simple but captivating waveforms.
I started a series of videos visualizing some of this music, with each channel's waveform visualized separately. This series of videos inspired many other YouTube users to create their own series of visualizations in the same style, and these have become the de facto standard for YouTube chiptune videos.
For the latest version of my script to generate these videos, I've invented an algorithm which I called TimbreCapture, to "lock into place" the shape of the waveform.
"Zizibum" by Ćukasz Sychowicz (AKA "X-Ray"), a famous composer in the Atari music scene, is one of the most popular chiptunes on YouTube.
